The Who, What, When and Where for Tax Filing

It’s game on!! If you have all your tax documents you were officially able to file as of January 27th. Which means, it’s time to collect all the necessary information and get it over to our office. That can feel a little ambiguous if you don’t live and breathe taxes like we do – so here is an outline of what you need to be thinking about. 

What will you need to file your taxes?

All the documentation that holds necessary records for personal taxes such as.

  • Anything that came in the mail labeled “Important Tax Document” such as W2s and 1099s,

  • Mortgage interest and real estate taxes, if applicable

  • Tuition forms and daycare statements

If you own a business here are a few more things to collect

  • Totals for income and expenses

  • Year-end inventory, if applicable

  • Forms 1099-MISC you’ve received

  • Details on any large purchases made in 2019

  • Auto deduction info – here’s a helpful Auto Worksheet 

  • Home office expenses – here’s a helpful Home Office Worksheet 

Or, if you own a rental property…

  • Totals for rents received and expenses paid – here’s a helpful  Rental Activity Worksheet 

  • Mileage info associated with the rental activity

  • HUD statements for any properties purchased or sold in 2019

Who, when and where of tax filing?

Now that you’ve collected every little piece of information – drop it off, mail it, fax it, upload it via our website or send an owl. Whatever you’ve got to do – just get it in our hands prior to your appointment.

Just remember – you have from now until April 15th to get your return filed. But, if we could be so bold as to say the sooner the better. End of tax season can get a little bananas around here. If your filing is complex or if you just want to beat the crowds, getting everything pulled together and in to see us soon would be a fantastic idea!
